چکیده

Moving GNSS towards indoor positioning is an important challenge. Increases in receiver sensitivity, the forthcoming increase in number of GNSS satellites and signal design improvements all contribute to addressing this challenge. Another remaining issue for GNSS-based indoor positioning is the impact of signal multipath phenomena in indoor environments. We designed an measurement campaign with the main object to assess the current state of GNSS as a positioning technology for indoor environments. In this paper we present the methodology for gathering and analyzing measurement campaign data and present first results, assessing GPS positioning performance parameters such as availability and accuracy and reasoning about environment-inherent performance limiting factors such a signal fading and multipath phenomena. The basis for this performance assessment is data gathered in a real-world indoor environment using state-of-the-art commercial receiver technology.

Measurement and Characterization of Satellite-to-Indoor Radio Wave Propagation Channel

Despite of the great advances in Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, millions of people still cannot be located when they are in indoor environment. The signal transmitted from the Navstar satellites experiences severe attenuation while penetrating all the construction materials. The characteristics of the indoor propagation is still not well understood and the question whether the GPS ...

High-Sensitivity GPS L1 Signal Analysis for Indoor Channel Modelling

New applications of indoor positioning and navigation demand GPS-level performance but in environments where GPS suffers performance degradation and failures. Development of GPS technologies to function indoors requires means to validate receiver performance without the time, complexity, and cost required to field test each development. Propagation models that can accurately predict signal beha...

Energy Detection of Unknown Signals over Composite multipath/shadowing Fading Channels

In this paper, the performance analysis of an energy detector is exploited over composite multipath/shadowing fading channels, which is modeled by Rayleigh-lognormal (RL) distribution. Based on an approximate channel model which was recently proposed by the author, the RL envelope probability density function (pdf) is approximated by a finite sum of weighted Rayleigh pdfs. Relying on this inter...

Reprint Multipath Characterization of Indoor Power Line Networks

The timeand frequency-varying behavior of an indoor power-line network is the result of variable impedance loads connected to its termination points. In fact, any signal transmitted through such a communications network is subject to time-varying multipath fading. In this paper, an analytical calculation method is presented, which can be used to determine the multipath components of any point-t...
